Enable a single production line to support mixed‑model ASU production for multiple customers and variants, while maintaining quality in line with European standards.

Amid the wave of intelligent upgrading for automotive chassis, the Air Supply Unit (ASU) — a core component of air suspension systems — demands extremely high assembly precision and process consistency. Faced with the production trend of multi‑variety and small‑batch manufacturing, how can a single production line satisfy mixed‑model production of ASUs for diverse customers and variants, while upholding European‑standard quality?

MMS has recently finalized a custom‑built flexible ASU assembly line solution for a well‑known European OEM, offering a highly valuable reference.

I. Project Background: Going Global to Europe with European Standards as the Foundation

Deployed at a manufacturing plant in Hungary, this production line manufactures ASU assemblies for multiple premium vehicle models. From project inception, all standard components and instruments were required to fully comply with European certifications. This fundamental requirement ensures smooth overseas acceptance of the line, together with compliance with stringent local regulations on workplace safety and quality traceability.

II. Core Highlight: One Set of Tooling for Multi‑Model Compatibility

The line’s standout design philosophy lies in high flexibility. Featuring quick‑change positioning tooling, programmable servo press‑fit parameters and configurable vision inspection templates, the same equipment accommodates two structurally distinct ASU variants for two major luxury vehicle platforms. Change‑over time is drastically shortened, substantially cutting repeated capital expenditure for the customer.

III. Process Workflow: Seven Core Processes for End‑to‑End Closed‑Loop Operation

The production line consists of seven key workstations, covering the full workflow from housing assembly through to final End‑of‑Line (EOL) testing.

IV. Overall Line Layout: Compact, Efficient and Human‑Machine Collaboration

Only minimal manual intervention is required across the full workflow of loading, assembly, testing and unloading. Clearly segmented zones for speed‑multiplying chain conveyors, robot workstations, test stations and non‑conforming (NG) stations deliver high output within a compact footprint.

V. Intelligent Core: Full‑Process Traceable Data with Seamless MES Integration

Equally impressive is the line’s software capability. Integrated data acquisition and monitoring systems enable real‑time upload of all process parameters — including press‑fit force, torque, vision inspection judgements and test metrics — with seamless connection to the plant’s Manufacturing Execution System (MES). Full production history is traceable for every unit, laying a solid data foundation for quality analysis and continuous process optimization.

From European‑standard compliance and multi‑variant flexible mixed‑model production, to precision press‑fitting and AI‑powered vision inspection, as well as human‑machine collaboration and data interconnection — this intelligent ASU assembly line demonstrates MMS’s system‑integration expertise in non‑standard automation, and underscores the robust competitiveness of Chinese intelligent equipment within the global high‑end automotive supply chain.

Moving forward, MMS will keep focusing on modular, flexible and intelligent production‑line solutions, empowering worldwide customers to tackle manufacturing challenges of diverse product portfolios and stringent quality requirements.
